Acceptance of Hybrid Photoluminescent Exit Signs with NCC 2025
Changes to the National Construction Code (NCC) 2025 will focus the minds of building owners and managers on the cost of battery exit signs.
The cost is not only exit signs themselves, it’s the waste that keeps happening after they’re installed.
NCC 2025 preview is available here and will be published on 1 May.
We welcome the further regulatory clarity regarding all types of battery-free PL exit signs in NCC 2025, with Clause E4D8 stating every required exit sign must –
- comply with –
- AS/NZS 2293.1; or
- for a passive photoluminescent exit sign, Specification 25; or
- for a hybrid photoluminescent exit sign SA TS 5367; and
- be clearly visible at all times when the building is occupied by any person having the right of legal entry to the building.
PL exit signs have been in the NCC since 2014. With growing global acceptance and NCC 2025 clarity, their role in cost-efficient, environmentally sustainable buildings will expand further.
Battery exit signs drain labour and replacement costs every year. PL exit signs stop the drain.
